Greene County softball team traveled to State Center for the West Marshall tournament. The Rams won the first game but lost the remaining two games.
The first game saw Greene County win 10-4 against the Newton Cardinals, with Emma Hoyle picking up the win for the Rams. She gave up one earned run in six innings. giving up one earned run in six innings. She had two strikeouts and two walks.
The Rams jumped to an early lead, scoring six runs in the first inning. They put up two more in the second and added runs in the third and six innings.
The Rams got 10 hits, with Kyla Beyers leading the way with three singles. Jenna Beyers and Emma Stream both hit doubles, and Megan Carey, Izza Bravard, Hoyle, Tieryn Tucker and Karissa Stephenson all hitting one single each.
The second game was a 5-4 loss to hosts West Marshall, as Jenna Beyers pitched a complete game and gave up three earned runs. She struck out three batters and walked two.
The Reams were ahead 3-2 at the top of the sixth inning. They scored another run to hold a 4-2 lead, but West Marshall scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth for the win.
The Rams got six hits, with a single and a double from Tucker, a double from Carey, and singles from Jenna Beyers, Hoyle and Alexa Peters.
Finally, a 9-5 loss to Baxter ended the Rams’ night, with Beyers taking the loss and Emma Hoyle throwing a no-decision. Beyers pitched the first three innings, striking out two, walking four and allowing three earned runs. Hoyle struck out two, walked one and allowed two earned runs.
Jenna Beyers hit a double and a single, and Carey, Bravard and Olivia Shannon each added singles.
The Rams softball team is now 4-13 on the season.
The Ram baseball team only got to play one game Saturday at the Van Meter tournament before weather played a factor, but the Rams made their one game count.
An upset win over 12-2 (now 12-3) Van Meter came for the Rams on the back of a strong pitching performance from Tyler Teeples. Teeples threw a complete-game shutout, giving up just three hits. He walked one batter and struck out one batter.
The game was scoreless until the Rams scored a run in the fourth inning. They scored their second run in the seventh inning.
The Rams had six hits on the offensive end, including a pair of doubles and a single by Nick Breon, a double by Austin Delp, and singles by Joe Anderson and Bryce Stalder.
The baseball team is now 5-12 on the season.
Both teams travel to Alleman to play North Polk Monday.
