Greene County softball is on a hot streak.
The Rams won their third straight game Monday night, using a four-run final frame to get a 6-5 decision against Saydel (Des Moines).
After each team scored two runs in the fifth inning, three straight runs by Saydel in the sixth and seventh innings put the Rams behind 5-2 with three outs left. After a two-RBI single from freshman Camryn Paup and a score on an error, the game winning hit came on a single from eighth grader Emma Stream. The win moved the Rams to 3-8 and 2-3 in the Heart of Iowa Conference.
Emma Hoyle pitched all seven innings. She struck out three batters, walked three, and allowed nine hits. Three of Saydel’s runs were earned.
Up next for the Rams travel to Adel to play Class 3A ADM Tuesday.
The Saydel (Des Moines) baseball team hadn’t won a game all season heading into Monday night’s game against the Greene County Rams, but the Rams ended up falling short and handing the Eagles a win.
Saydel’s batting was on point all game, with senior pitcher Austin Delp taking the pitching loss and giving up four earned runs in five innings, although he did record six strikeouts. Delp also recorded a double and a triple at the plate. Four errors and a rough stint for relief pitcher Tyler Teeples made sure the Eagles finished on top.
Now 4-8 on the season, the Rams travel to North Polk Tuesday night.
