The Ram summer teams celebrated the Bell Tower Festival with wins over the Nevada Cubs Friday evening in Jefferson.
The softball team got its second consecutive win of the season, using strong pitching by eighth grader Emma Hoyle to claim a 4-2 victory.
Hoyle pitched the entire game. She struck out one batter, walked two and give up four hits. The Ram offense tallied seven hits — all singles — and scored three runs in the third inning to take a lead they would not relinquish the rest of the game. An insurance run in the sixth inning gave the Rams their fourth and final run.
The Rams are now 2-8 while the Cubs are 5-8.
The baseball team got back into the winning circle, outlasting Nevada and moving to 4-7 on the year.
Brent Riley took the win for the Rams while also contributing two hits on the night, and Nick Breon had two RBIs to help the Greene County offense.
The Rams had to hold on to end the game, building a 5-0 lead and then allowing two sixth inning runs from Nevada. After allowing another run in the seventh, the Rams shut up shop and headed into a weekend off with a 5-3 win.
The Ram baseball team is 3-7 on the season; the Cubs are now 2-4.
The Rams will travel to the north side of Des Moines to play Saydel Monday.
