Thursday night was not a fruitful one for Greene County baseball and softball.
The Rams were swept on their home field, with softball falling short against North Polk and Ballard (Huxley) defeating Rams baseball.
Emma Hoyle took the mound for Greene County softball against the Comets, pitching four innings and falling to 0-2 with the loss.
The Comets had 10 hits and scored five runs in the fourth inning to take a 6-0 lead before adding two runs in the fifth and two more in the seventh. The Rams had five hits and scored their only runs in the fifth and six innings, with Hoyle recording the team’s only extra-base hit.
Four errors on the Rams defense helped the Comets pull away, and Greene County
softball remains winless on the season.
The Ram baseball team fared worse, getting run-ruled 11-1 by the Ballard Bombers. The Rams started senior pitcher David Ritcher for the first time. He lasted 2-2/3 innings, posting no strikeouts, giving up seven hits and seven earned runs. The Rams had five hits on the night to the Bombers’ nine hits, with senior Austin Delp recording two hits for Greene County.
The Rams’ only run came from a single by senior Joe Anderson.
Three straight losses have dropped Greene County baseball to 2-3, with a game at Winterset Friday night.
Greene County softball is still winless on the season. The Rams next play Saturday in a tournament at Bondurant-Farrar High School.
