The Ram boys track and field team dominated the field events at the Carroll co-ed meet held Monday, April 8. Carter Morton and Colby Kafer set new school records on their way to winning the high jump and long jump, respectively, and Tyler Miller won the shot put.
Junior Carter Morton the Jefferson/Jefferson-Scranton/Greene County record in the high jump, clearing the bar at 6’ 8”. Freshman Nathan Black was second at a height of 5’ 10”.
Kafer’s winning leap in the long jump was 10’ 11-1/4”, almost 14 inches farther than the second place leaper. Tyler Miller won the shot put with a throw of 47’ 7”, nearly 2 feet farther than the next closest competitor. Bryce Hoyle was fifth place in the shot put with a throw of 42’-1/2”. In the discus, Hoyle finished third at 122’ 8” and Miller placed fourth at 114’ 5”.
On the track, the 4 X 200m relay team of Tyler Teeples, Jaxon Warnke, Brent Riley and Colby Kafer won in 1:36.22. The same quartet, with Carter Morton running the second leg instead of Warnke, won the 4 X 100m relay in 46.03 seconds.
Placing third was the 800 sprint medley team of Carter Morton, Riley, Teeples and Warnke. Their time was 1:41.11. The 4 X 800m relay of Luis Velazco, Nathan Wailes, Logan Brophy and Colton Aubrey placed fourth in 9:25.76. The 4 X 400m relay of Bryce Stalder, Will Hansen, Jackson Morton and Warnke placed fifth in 3:46.78.
In individual races, Teeples took second place in the 100m dash in a time of 11.54 seconds, and Kafer placed second in the 2300m dash in 23:39 seconds. Hansen placed sixth in the 400m dash in 57.58 seconds, and Aubrey placed sixth in the 800m run in 2:20.75.
Team scores in boys competition were South Central Calhoun 140, IKM-Manning 128, Greene County 100, Carroll 73, Audubon 40, Maple Valley/Anthon-Oto/Charter Oak-Ute 35, Perry 35, Woodward-Granger 31.
The girls also fared well in field events. Brianna Osterson won the girls long jump, stretching 17’ 3” and setting a new school record. That was almost 2 feet farther than the second place finisher. Lily Muir placed fourth at 14’ 9-3/4”.
Brooklyn Olson was second in the girls discus at 109’ 8”.
The Rams won the 4 X 100m shuttle hurdle relay with Muir, Maddie VanPelt, Izzy Bravard and Melanie Doran finishing in 1:14.61. The 4 X 100m relay placed second with Doran, Sigler, Kafer and Osterson carrying the baton. The 4 X 200m relay finished third with a time of 1:59.49. Runners were Melanie Doran, Muir, Paige Heaning and Tieryn Tucker.
The sprint medley relay team of Heaning, Tieryn Tucker, Sigler and Makala Kafer placed fifth with a time of 2:04.89. Also placing fifth was the 4 X 400m relay with the medley team in a different order – Sigler, Kafer, Heaning, Tucker. Their time was 4:48.11.
Osterson took home another first place medal, finishing first in the 400m dash in 1:03.91. She placed second in the 200m dash in 27.78 seconds. Maddy Sigler placed fourth in 1:08.37. Bravard claimed first place in the 400m hurdles in 1:15.99, and second place in the 100m hurdles with a time of 17.44 seconds. Freshman Annie Twillie finished the 100m dash in fifth place with a tie of 14.42 seconds, and Kassie Lamoureux placed fifth in the 1500m run with a time of 6:12.5
The Rams finished second in team scores. Scores were Carroll 139.5, Greene County 94, IKM-Manning 92, Roland-Story 89, Audubon 73, MVAOCOU 39.5, Woodward-Granger 35, Perry 20.
