The Ram boys soccer team opened the 2019 campaign with an 8-3 victory in Humboldt Tuesday.
“We played very well,” coach Carl Behne said about his team. “We started the first half very strong and maintained possession of the vast majority of the first half.”
The Rams led 3-1 at the break, with the Wildcats scoring with 18 minutes to play in the half after what Behne called “a small defensive breakdown.”
“We continued with a great second half, wearing them down. Our scoring was capped off with a beautiful free kick from just outside the box by Junior Gutierrez in the upper left corner,” Behne said.
Guitierrez, a junior, scored five of the Rams’ goals. He was also credited with one shot, one shot on goal, and one assist. Sophomore Luis Velazco scored two goals, took four shots and three shots on goal. He also had an assist. Sophomore Maynor Carballo scored a goal and made three shots and two shots on goal.
Senior Austin Delp took one shot and one shot on goal and had onoe assist. Senor Isaiah Losee took one shot and one shot on goal.
Goalie junior Cael Fisher have seven saves and allowed the Wildcats three goals in 80 minutes of play.
All 18 Ram players saw playing time. Junior Alex Roberts coming off the bench took one shot and one shot on goal.
The Rams’ next game is Thursday, April 4, at 7:30 pm in Carroll against the Carroll Tigers.
