Storm sirens will be tested this week the annual severe weather drill is slated for Wednesday, according to Greene County emergency management director Dennis Morlan.
The Greene County 9-1-1 board again engaged the services of Jon Marckres of Unplugged Wireless to check all storm sirens in the county. This is usually done earlier in the season, but snow and wintry weather has delayed the project. Marckres told Morlan the testing will be done this week.
The 9-1-1 board will pay for the system evaluation. Each community that has a siren will be notified of the findings and will be responsible for any needed repairs.
Also, this week is the annual Severe Weather Awareness Week in Iowa. The annual drill will be held Wednesday, March 27. A watch will be issued at 10 am, a warning with siren activation will follow at 10:15, and the all clear will be issued at about 10:35.
All public service agencies, as well as the medical center, nursing homes, schools and the general public are encouraged to participate in the drill.
In the event of bad weather Wednesday, the drill may be delayed a day or two, Morlan said.
