The Greene County track and field teams competed in the 26th annual Iowa State High School Classic in Ames March 19.
Kolby Kafer posted the boys best finish, taking fourth place in the long jump with a distance of 20’3-3/4”. This was the second time this season Kafer has jumped longer than 20 feet.
Tyler Miller threw the shot put 48’ 9-1/4” for a ninth place finish.
The distance medley relay team of Jackson Morton, Jaxon Warnke, Bryce Stalder and Luis Carolos Velazco set an indoor school record time of 4:06.51.
Other finishes for the boys were: high jump – Nathan Black, 5’8”; long jump – Stalder, 15’ 9-3/4”; shot put – Bryce Hoyle, 38’ 3-1/4”; 60m – Colby Kafer, 7.6 seconds, and Brent Riley, 7.91 seconds; 3200m run – Anthony Tolsdorf, 13:40.01; and 1600m run – Nathan Wailes, 5:41.02, and Josh Ewalt, 5:54.08.
Some athletes did not compete because of injury or illness, coach Chad Morton said.
Coach Derek Merk provided times and distances for the girls team as follows: 60m dash – Maddy Sigler, 8.85 seconds, and Tieryn Tucker, 9.04 seconds; 60m hurdles Lily Muir,10.94 seconds, and Melanie Doran, 11.06 seconds; sprint medley relay – Makala Kafer, Sigler, Doran, Brianna Osterson, 2:03.36; long jump, Osterson 15’2”, and Janelle Brophy,14’ 8-3/4”; shot put – Brooklyn Olson, 32’ 1-1/5”; and 4 X 100m relay, Doran, Sigler, Kafer and Osterson, 54.57 seconds.
“I was very pleased with this quartet and time,” Merk said about the 4X100. “We have not spent much time focusing on handoffs but they ended up looking fairly good. I am looking forward to what we can do with this relay once we get outside.”
