The Greene County Community Foundation will award 23 grants totaling $150,000 Monday, March 25, at the First Presbyterian Fellowship Hall in Jefferson. The presentations will begin at 7 pm. Representatives of all groups receiving grants have been asked to attend.
The public is welcome.
The 2019 grants will bring the total awarded to $1,506,000 since the Community Foundation was organized in 2005. The Foundation has provided funds for 269 projects.
“We’re grateful to be able to help fund many worthwhile community projects,” said Tori Riley, president of the Community Foundation board. “The Foundation board reviewed 33 applications for funding, and after lively discussion we funded those that would benefit the most people and have a lasting impact on the quality of life in Greene County.”
The funds distributed by the Greene County Community Foundation come through Grow Greene County Gaming Corporation from gaming proceeds at Wild Rose Jefferson.
The Community Foundation also conducts a fund drive every fall to raise funds for its permanent endowment. A percentage of the endowment can be distributed through grants, but the larger part of it is set aside to assure the Foundation’s future should gaming laws in Iowa be changed.
