Greene County junior Carter Morton placed first in the high jump at the Buena Vista University co-ed Elite Meet Saturday, setting a meet record, a new school record and a personal record at 6’ 7”. His jump was three inches higher than at the opening indoor meet at the University of Northern Iowa earlier this month.
Morton also placed fifth in the 60m hurdles in 9.46 seconds.
Junior Kolby Kafer won the long jump with a leap of 20’ 4-1/2”, 13-3/4 inches farther than his 10th place jump at the 2018 state meet. Kafer also set a personal record and finished in fifth place in the 60m dash with a time of 7.49 seconds.
Junior Tyler Miller placed second in the shot put and set a personal record with a toss of 47’ 11”.
The 4 X 400m relay team of Brent Riley, Jaxon Warnke, Tyler Teeples and Kafer placed fifth in 3:45.08.
Junior John Rosado placed sixth in the long jump at 18’ 8”, and freshman Bryce Stalder placed eighth at 18’ 0”.
Rams setting personal records but not placing in the top eight were Joe Patterson in the hot put at 38’7”, and Rosado in the 200m dash in 25.83 seconds.

The Ram girls team had its best finishes in the shuttle hurdle relay and the shot put. The shuttle hurdle relay team of Izzy Bravard, Megan Doran, Lily Muir and Melanie Doran placed fifth with a time of 43.42 seconds. Brooklyn Olson took fifth place in the shot put with a throw of 32; 5-1/2”.
Janelle Brophy placed seventh in the long jump with a season best leap of 15’ 3-1/2”.
Coach Derek Merk said the hurdlers had “a very good day.” Muir (10.83 seconds) and Bravard (11.01 seconds) posted personal records and Melanie Doran (10.79 seconds) was only .1 second off her personal record.

“I was really pleased with the team I got to see at this meet,” Merk said. “We were able to bring nearly all of the girls, 9-12th, to this indoor. I felt like the girls really supported each other throughout the day. The younger girls were able to obtain some great experience. I feel like this will help us have an easier transition to the outdoor season.”
About the freshmen on the team, Asta Jurgensen, Madison Grow, Madison Hayes and Addi Adcock, the coach said “I couldn’t be more happy with how they went out there, did everything we asked of the, and gave it their all. I look forward to seeing how they mature and grow as athletes over the season.”
