In Greene County district court Gregory Jay Hampton, 53, of Johnston was sentenced to two days in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated- first offense. He must complete the recommendations of a substance abuse evaluation he has already undergone, and he must also complete a community college drinking drivers school. He may complete the Des Moines Area Community College 48-hour alcohol education program in lieu of the jail time and the community college school. Hampton was fined $1,250 with a $437.50 surcharge and a $10 drug abuse resistance education (DARE) surcharge. Court costs were $100. (Sentencing: Honorable Joseph B. McCarville)
Persons pleaded not guilty at arraignments as follows: Adam Michael Winger, 38, of Jefferson, possession of a controlled substance- third of subsequent offense; Cayleb Anthony Walker, 25, of Coon Rapids, assault causing bodily injury or mental illness; Juan Carlos Jimenez, 23, of Scranton, possession of marijuana; Thomas Richard Langford, 52, of Dana, OWI- first offense; Elisha Marie Mischke, 38, of Jefferson, false report of indictable offense to public entity and unlawful possession of prescription drug; Michael William Caraher, 27, of Jefferson, OWI- first offense; and Sheila R. Madson, 56, of Jefferson, OWI- first offense. Trial dates were set for May 14 for Winger, Walker, Jimenez, and Langford. Trial dates were set for April 9 for Mischke, Caraher and Madson.
Cases were initiated as follows: Brent Eugene Leon Allen, 33,of Clarinda, theft- fourth degree; Douglas Duane Owen, 36, of Churdan, driving while license barred; and Kylene Suzanne Rabourne, 40, of Grand Junction, theft- third degree.
