Register now for soccer, pitching/hitting clinics, Mother-Son Date Night and Chef Camp
Parents of wanna-be soccer players are reminded that Saturday, March 2, is the hard deadline for registering children for the Jefferson park and recreation department’s spring outdoor soccer programs. Registration can be done at any time or at a final sign-up event Friday from 2 to 5 pm at the Greene County Community Center, 204 W. Harrison St, in Jefferson.
Dates and times for practices will be set after teams are formed. Children in the U8 program will play games in Jefferson and Ogden. Children in the U10, U12 and U15 programs will play all their games in Fort Dodge.
Volunteer coaches are needed. Persons who want information about coaching can call JPRD assistant director Emily Vander Wilt at 515-386-3412 or attend the March 2 sign-up event.
Along with soccer, the softball hitting and pitching clinics are another guarantee that spring is near.
Girls in grades 4-8 can sharpen their skills with coach Tom Kennedy Sundays, March 3-24, at the Community Center. The pitching clinic will be from 12:30 to 1:30, with the hitting clinic from 1:30 to 2:30.
Mothers and sons will have their turn at a special evening together at JPRD’s Mother-Son Date Night Friday, March 8. The party is open to boys in preK through fifth grade and their mother, grandmother or mother figure. The evening begins with pizza and BINGO and ends with music, games and activities in the Community Center gym.
Pre-registration is requested to assure there’s enough pizza for all.
Finally, the Hy-Vee Chef Camp returns Monday and Tuesday, March 18-19, from 2:30 to 4 pm at the Community Center. Students in grades 3-6 will prepare a different food item each day as they look at basic nutrition and kitchen safety, along with math and science concepts.
Class size is limited; the registration deadline is Wednesday, March 13.
Persons who want more information about any JPRD program can call the Community Center at 515-386-3412. Registration forms can be found here.
