A Greene County sheriff’s deputy shot and killed a dog at McMahon Access in Jackson Township early Saturday evening.
Sheriff Jack Williams explained the dog had bitten a person in the face at McMahon Access and was running loose in the woods. The responding deputy located the dog while the victim was taken to the emergency room.
According to Williams, the dog was aggressive and kept trying to run away, so the deputy put the dog down. It was taken immediately for rabies testing in Ames to help medical center staff determine if the victim needed rabies shots.
The dog had been dumped at McMahon Access shortly before the incident. The sheriff’s office is trying to locate its owner.
