The Greene County wrestling team traveled to Ida Grove Saturday, Feb. 2, for a Class 2A sectional wrestling meet. Tenth ranked Sergeant Bluff-Luton was first in the team standings, followed by Harlan in second. Greene County placed fourth out of six teams. First and second place in each weight division advances to district competition at Harlan, beginning at noon on Saturday.
Two Rams won individual championships: Clint Dennhardt in the 182-pound class and Bryce Hoyle at 195-pounds. Dennhardt received a first round bye and pinned his next two opponents. Hoyle recorded three pins on his way to first place.
Placing second in their divisions were Braden Gallagher at 106; 160-pound Joel Ward, and Brock Wuebker at 170 pounds. Gallagher received a bye in the first round, won a 9-3 decision and lost by fall. Ward pinned his first opponent then lost a 5-12 decision. He won the third place match by 10-4 decision and defeated an Atlantic wrestler 7-6 in a wrestle back opportunity to place second.
Wuebker received a bye, pinned his next opponent and lost a 6-8 decision in the championship match. He pinned an Atlantic wrestler in a wrestle back match to retain second place honors. Matthew Naberhaus had a chance to wrestle back for second place but he was defeated by a fall.
