The family of Ben Robbins hosted a memorial gathering and visitation Saturday, Jan. 26, from 10 am until 12 noon at the Walton Woods Community Room, 1000 W. Adams St, Jefferson. In Lieu of flowers, memorials in Ben’s name may be given to the family. Interment will be at a later date at the Scranton Township Cemetery west of Scranton.
Ben Eugene Robbins was born April 4, 1956, at Jefferson. He was the son of Kenneth and Dorothy (Schilling) Robbins. Ben died unexpectedly January 14, 2019, at his home in Jefferson. He was 62 years of age.
Ben grew up on a farm north of Scranton and graduated from Scranton High School in 1974. Following graduation, he attended semi-driver’s school and drove a truck until entering United States Army in June of 1975. During his eight years of military service, Ben was stationed in the United States and Germany, where he drove semis and trucks. After his honorable discharge in June of 1981, Ben drove semis until a motorcycle accident and ensuing health issues prevented him from continuing as a semi driver. In recent years, Ben has lived in Jefferson. He was always willing to help anyone, and he was a friend to many.
Ben is survived by his daughter Jennifer and her husband Jeremy Sweeney,of Manning; granddaughters Ashley Watters and Nicole Watters and grandson Austyn Sweeney, all of Manning; siblings Tim (Vickie) Robbins of Scranton, Anita Jenkins of Dallas Center, Sherry (Randy) Kernen of Glidden, and Rick Schilling and Mac Schilling, both of West Des Moines; aunt Arline Robbins of Jefferson; six nieces and nephews, 11 great nieces and nephews.; other relatives and friends.
Preceding Ben in death were his parents Kenneth and Dorothy Robbins; nephew Matthew Kernen; great-nephew Grant Robbins; Rick Shilling’s wife Karen,;and Rick’s son Nicholas.
