The public will see some major improvements taking place at the Jefferson public library over the next few months.
Grell Roofing of Fort Dodge will replace the flat section on the 1904 Carnegie building and Affordable Quality Exteriors of Perry will replace the shingles, which were last replaced in 1989. Work is scheduled to be done soon on the Carnegie building.
Grell will also replace the rubber membrane and insulation on the 1967 addition (the adult library) with a Duro-Last membrane system. The flat roof on the addition was last replaced in 1997. That work will be done in the spring.
Funding for the roof replacement projects will come from the city’s local option sales and service tax (LOSST) earmarked for the maintenance of municipal buildings.
The library will be open regular hours during these projects. However, the public is asked to park away from any roofing equipment.
