Paul Samuel Pope was born Dec. 11, 1941, in Mason City. He was the son of Russell and Alice (Sears) Pope. Paul graduated from Jefferson High School in 1960. He served in the Iowa National Guard for 23 years. He worked for Franklin Manufacturing (aka WCI, Electrolux, Frigidaire) for 43 years. He then started a safety consulting firm, PK Pope and Associates.
Paul met his wife, Karen Springer, in 1960. They were married for 51 years. They raised three daughters in Jefferson and were blessed with seven grandchildren whom Paul cherished enormously!
Paul was passionate about his family, his faith in God, golf, and camping with family and friends. He never missed an Iowa State Fair or a grandkid’s activity. One of Paul’s special gifts was his kindness and ability to make friends with all he met.
Following a short battle with lung cancer, Paul passed away peacefully Oct. 8, 2018, at the Greene County Medical Center, surrounded by his adoring family. He was 76 years of age.
Paul is survived by his wife Karen Pope; daughters Alisa (Scott) Glienke, Dawn (Chad) Taute, and Miranda (Mark) Paup; grandchildren: Jordyn and Camryn Glienke, Madisyn and Mylo Taute, Darion (Olivia), Tristyn, and Corbyn Paup; brothers Wayne (June) Pope, Harold (Joan) Pope; sister Mary Ann (John) Freeman; many nieces and nephews; in-laws Jay Springer, Jim (Cathy) Springer, Ted (Mary Jo) Springer, and Kay Moranville; and grand-puppies Coby, Ruby, Cooper and Bohdi.
Paul was greeted in heaven by his granddaughter Murphy Taute; his parents Russell and Alice Pope; and sisters Rosalie Goff and Lois Pope. Also preceding him in death were his parents-in-laws Hap and Ruby Springer; and his nephew Steven Moranville.
