The Paton-Churdan volleyball team takes a 3-2 record into its first home match of the season Sept. 13 against Exira-EHK.
The Rockets opened their 2018 campaign at Coon Rapids-Bayard Sept. 1. They were 1-2 in matches and 4-5 in games that day.
Game scores against the Ankeny Christian Academy Eagles were 21-17, 18-21, 15-13. Game scores against the Class 3A Atlantic Trojans were 17-21, 21-14, 7-15. Games scores against the host CR-B Crusaders were 21-14, 16-21, 14-16.
For the day, sophomore Chloe Berns led at the service line, not missing a serve until the third match of the day. She made 30 of 31 serves for 96.7 percent. Berns also led in assists with 25. Senior Megan Carey led in kills with 21 and served at 88 percent. Sophomore Karissa Stephenson also served at 88 percent. Sophomore Danielle Hoyle led in digs with 13.
The Rockets won three games when they traveled to Orient Sept. 10 to play the Orient-Macksburg Bulldogs. Game scores were 25-14, 25-12, 26-24. Stephenson led at the service line against the Bulldogs making seven of seven serves. Hoyle made 19 of 21 serves for 90.5 percent with eight aces and sophomore Tessa Steimel made 17 of 19 serves for 89.5 percent with 11 aces. Steimel led in digs with four. Carey led in kills with 8 and had nine assists. Berns led in assists with 12. The team served at 84 percent.
Paton-Churdan was back on the road Tuesday to play the Woodbine Tigers and won three of four games. Scores were 25-15, 22-25, 25-16, 25-21. Serving was better, with the team making 85 of 96 serves for 88.5 percent. Stephenson was again perfect on the night, making 12 of 12 serves and getting seven digs. Berns made 19 of 20 serves for 95 percent and had 22 assists and five digs. Hoyle had 11 digs and Carey led in kills with 23.
