Invitations to join an arche0logical dig close to home are infrequent, but Whiterock Conservancy is issuing one now.
Whiterock is looking for at least five volunteers to be part of a dig Saturday, Sept. 15. “As river levels change and meander, artifacts from Native American camp sites are exposed,” explained Joe Arts. He and Branden Scott will lead the dig.The dig will begin at 9 am and be finished by 5 pm. Volunteers will help measure, flag, dig and sieve soil along the banks of the Middle Raccoon River at Whiterock Conservancy at Coon Rapids. “Excavations are a truly unique experience as you never know what you will uncover,” Arts said.
Persons who want to participate are asked to contact Whiterock Guest Services at 712-790-8221, ext. 1, or email guestinfo@whiterockconservancy.org by Friday, Sept. 7, at 5 pm.
