A portion of County Road E-18 (130th St) in Dawson Township closed Wednesday for a road resurfacing and bridge construction project.
The posted detour uses County Road E-26 as the alternate east-west road.
The bridge across W. Buttrick Creek will be replaced with a wider structure, taking it from 22 feet wide to 30 feet. The approaches will also be lengthened. The bridge work is being done by Dixon Construction at a cost of $609,710.
While the road is closed, Fort Dodge Asphalt is putting down a 5-inch overlay on 2-1/4 miles of between the bridge and County Road P-29.
Cost for that portion of the project is $596,660, for a total cost of $1,206,370. Both projects are being paid for with farm-to-market funds.
Harvest will be well underway before the road opens again; the contractors have 65 working days to complete it without penalty.
County engineer Wade Weiss told the supervisors earlier this summer that he preferred closing the road all together rather than using flaggers while the resurfacing is done. Closing the road allows for a safer and faster project, he said.
