Nestled into the quiet end of the street, the charming home and flower garden of Dorothy Clause in the 600 block of S. Vine St has the delightful qualities of an enchanted fairytale. Bright red geraniums brim from the planters at the front door of the Craftsman-style home while prolifically blooming rose bushes, black eyed Susans, butterfly bushes and more are positioned along the garden path, making the experience delightful.
The multiple flower beds at the Jefferson Garden Club’s Yard of the Month are carefully and lovingly tended by Clause, who has lived in the home since 2013. Knowledgeable about the many plants’ “preferences” for light and soil type, her choices are thriving where she’s placed them. Throughout the gardens, she has incorporated special pieces of garden art to enhance the wide variety of shade and sun-loving plants she has selected. In a private “secret garden”, which she enjoys, she is on-trend with the creative use of succulents in a surprising container.
