In Greene County district court James Marvin Holmberg, 43, of Boone was sentenced July 24 to two days in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of possession of methamphetamine. The jail time was suspended and he was placed on informal probation for one year. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense.
Holmberg was fined $315 with a $110.25 surcharge, a $10 surcharge for drug abuse resistance education (DARE) and a $125 Law Enforcement Initiative surcharge. A charge of possession of marijuana was dismissed. Court costs were $100. (Sentencing: Honorable Joseph B. McCarville)
Ashlee Kaye Agan, 26, of Jefferson was sentenced to two days in jail after she pleaded guilty to a charge of theft- fifth degree, amended from burglary- third degree. She was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and a $125 LEI surcharge. Court costs were $120. (Sentencing: McCarville)
Persons pleaded not guilty at arraignment as follows: Jon Michael Johnson, 30, of Jefferson, domestic abuse assault causing injury or mental illness; Ryan James Brown, 45, of Jefferson, burglary- second degree, domestic abuse assault- second offense, and driving while license barred; Whitney Jean Campbell Perez, 20, of Jefferson, possession of methamphetamine; David Hoyle, 32, of Churdan, domestic abuse assault- second offense; and Nathaniel Brown, 41, of Scranton, domestic abuse assault- third or subsequent offense. Trial dates were set for Sept. 25 in every case.
Daniel Joseph Brownfield, 38, of Ogden has been charged with burglary- third degree (motor vehicle) and theft- third degree. A warrant was issued June 19 and returned July 25.
Cases were initiated in district court during the week ending July 26 as follows: Douglas Joseph Strang, 61, of West Des Moines, OWI- second offense; and Chad Christopher Louk, 42, of Jefferson, assault causing bodily injury or mental illness.
