Rippey library – Shawneene will be on vacation for a few days. The library will be closed starting Wednesday, July 25 through Tuesday, July 31. Normal hours will resume on Wednesday, Aug. 1.
The Rippey library board of trustees will meet Thursday, Aug. 2, at 7 pm in the library. Note this change of date due to Shawneene being gone on vacation during the regular meeting time.
Phil and Toni Roberts visited family near and far this week. Monday after stopping for a while for a short chat with son Matthew in Jefferson, they traveled on to Churdan to make acquaintance with their newest great-grandchild, Riley Mae. Riley is the daughter of Karen and Gregg Rooney of Churdan. They brought a “pretty in pink” outfit for Riley and a casserole for the family and got in some snuggling time with the little miss.
Thursday was a busy day at the Madison County Fair in Winterset where they attended the poultry show to watch their three granddaughters, Josie, Addie, and Lily Burkett. Addie had one of their static projects chosen for State Fair! Grandma and Grandpa were “proud as punch” at all their accomplishments.
Sunday the couple drove to Algona to see Toni’s sister Joyce Macek at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home. It had been several months since their last visit and Toni was relieved that Joyce recognized her, although names were hard for Joyce to remember. It was still a very enjoyable afternoon. Upon returning home their daughter Lori Bardole joined them for an evening meal (a roast in the crockpot)! A busy week but very satisfying to have the blessings of family so close to enjoy!Rippey Hometown Teams Display
“Rippey’s Hometown Teams” display at the Rippey Public Library includes stories, uniforms, trophies, pictures and other items.
Along with other Greene County towns, this display will be at the Greene County Historical Museum in Jefferson from Aug. 11-Sept. 23 as part of the “Hometown Teams-How Sports Shape America” exhibit from the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, D.C. The Smithsonian exhibit has been traveling around Iowa during the summer with local community displays added at each location.
Plan to visit the Greene County Historical Museum to see the entire display. If you have Rippey items or stories to share, contact Nancy Hanaman.
