Mary Louise Hilsenbeck Thede was born October 18, 1948, in Jefferson, Iowa, the daughter of Charles Hilsenbeck and Gertrude Mehman Hilsenbeck. She died with her family by her side on May 21, 2018, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines at the age of 69 years.
Mary grew up in the Bagley area and graduated from YJB High School in 1966. Mary lived most of her adult life in Jefferson. Mary and Dennis Thede were the parents of four children: Sarah, Chad, Jason, and John. Mary worked as a dietician at the Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson. She also volunteered working with older women and their families helping them at home. She later stayed busy volunteering her time at congregate meals.
Mary was an avid reader. She also enjoyed crocheting, camping, westerns, and a good fish fry. She loved to spend time with her family.
Mary was preceded in death by her infant daughter Sarah, and her father Charles Hilsenbeck. She is survived by her mother Gertrude Hilsenbeck of Jefferson; her three children: Chad (Megan) Thede of Davenport, John (Shara) Thede of Clarksville, TN, and Jason (Diana) Thede of Bouton; her long-time companion, Jim Taylor of Jefferson; eight grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; her siblings Beverly, Chuck, Donna, Duane, Shirley, and Linda; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and many friends.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 pm on Friday May 25, 2018 at Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home in Jefferson. Visitation with the family present to greet friends will be from 12 to 2 pm on Friday at Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home. Interment will be at Jefferson Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Congregate Meals in Jefferson.
