Allen Terrill Blackburn was born October 10, 1924, to George S. Blackburn and Geneva (Terrill) Blackburn on a farm west of Grand Junction. Allen graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1943. He was united in marriage to Karen Madsen on September 27, 1968. Allen and Karen had two children, Terry and Judy.
Allen worked in the family seed corn business and was a row crop and livestock farmer until his retirement. Allen and Karen were honored in 2013 with the Iowa Department of Ag & Land Stewardship Century Farm designation at the Iowa State Fair.
Allen enjoyed reading, visiting with family and friends and was a fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Allen passed away peacefully surrounded by family on May 18, 2018.
Preceding Allen in death are his parents, George and Geneva Blackburn, and siblings George T. Blackburn, Gene Blackburn and Olive Umbaugh. Survivors include his wife Karen of Grand Junction, daughter Judy (Rick) Hillman of Dana, son Terry and his girlfriend Christine Snyder of Ankeny, and many family and friends.
The family of Allen Blackburn would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff at UnityPoint Clinic-Jefferson, UnityPoint at Home-Jefferson and UnityPoint Hospice for their compassionate care.
Per Allen’s request, his body will be donated to the University of Iowa Deeded Body Program. A private service will be held at a later date.
Memorials are suggested to the family to be used at their discretion and may be left at Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home, Jefferson.
