Ram senior Megan Durbin reclaimed her title as Drake Relays champion in the girls’ high jump this afternoon, clearing the bar at 5′ 7″.
From a starting field of 23, Durbin and Southeast Valley freshman Kiersten Fisher were the only to jump 5′ 6″. Durbin cleared on her first jump, while Fisher missed her first attempt but made her second attempt. Durbin missed her first attempt at 5′ 7″ and then cleared the bar on her second jump. Fisher missed all three attempts at 5′ 7″, giving Durbin the title.
Durbin has jumped 5′ 8″ this season. She passed at that height but gave 5′ 8-1/4″ three unsuccessful tries before the afternoon was done.
Durbin was the Drake Relays and Class 3A champion in the high jump in 2016, her sophomore year. That year she won the title at 5′ 6″, but went on and finished at 5′ 8″. Last year she was runner-up at both the Drake Relays and the 3A State Track & Field Meet. At Drake she cleared at 5′ 6″ but the winning jump was 5′ 7″.
Durbin will return to Drake Stadium Friday afternoon as the anchor of the Rams’ 4 X 100m relay. Junior Melanie Doran and freshmen Brianna Osterson and Lily Muir fill out the team.
