Carla and Chuck Offenburger have been chosen as the recipients of the Greene County Community Impact”Award for 2018. The award was established to recognize an individual or individuals whose activities have an easily recognized impact upon Greene County residents. The activities must be of a volunteer nature.
A quote from their nomination stated “Chuck and Carla Offenburger are tireless volunteers for causes they believe in. The value they add is priceless with the experience they have in regard to tourism and development. They have definitely made a positive difference in many ways for both Jefferson and Greene County.”
Carla has served as director of the renovation of the iconic Gallup house, worked on the initial streetscape plan for the Jefferson business district, currently serves on the organizational committee of Jefferson Matters: Main Street, and was president of the Raccoon River Valley Trail Association its first four years. Carla has been clerk for Franklin Township since 2014.
Chuck and Carla have both been active in planning bike trail-related events, always emphasizing Jefferson and Greene County as a place to begin and end those activities. The couple were also co-chairs of the RAGBRAI overnight stay in Jefferson 10 years ago.
The Cooper area is their home close to the bike path and they were members of the Committee for a Super Cooper and for five years organizers of the Cooper High School Prom.
Chuck serves on the board of directors of the Greene County Historical Society and served on the Courthouse 100 committee.
This is the ninth year the award has been presented. The award was created in 2010. Past recipients include Lawrence Geisler, the Town and Country Band, Carson Griffith, Vickie and Tim Robbins, Doug Hawn, Alice Walters, Mary Weaver, and Jim North.
Carla and Chuck Offenburger will be honored Sunday June 3, at 3 pm in a ceremony in the rotunda of the Greene County courthouse. The program will include speakers, music, and refreshments. The public is invited to attend and honor the Offenburgers.
