Grow Greene County sponsors evening headliner Hairball
Gear up for a party.
With less than 100 days left until RAGBRAI® rolls, the Jefferson RAGBRAI committee invites area residents and bicycle enthusiasts to a party Monday, April 23, where the local theme and logo will be revealed.
This rockin’ good time will be held at the old Milwaukee Road depot at 601 E. Lincoln Way. The doors will open at 5 pm with appetizers and beverages from Hy-Vee. The logo will be revealed at 5:30.
Executive co-chair of the Jefferson RAGBRAI committee Toni Wetrich guarantees “an electric and boisterous event people won’t want to miss.”
“We are excited to reveal our theme and logo and hope that we can get the community involved in this exciting time to showcase our town.” she said. “We’re also excited to host this event at the Milwaukee depot, and if the weather is nice, we encourage everyone to ride their bikes to the event to kickoff this celebration.”
The celebration will mark the three-month countdown to July 23, the day riders on the Register’s Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) pedal to Jefferson for only the fourth time in its 46-year history.
To help celebrate the occasion, Jefferson’s RAGBRAI committee will premiere a promotional video containing a special message from the band Hairball, the headliner for the festivities in July. The video will be posted on the RAGBRAI website and on social media, but people at the reveal party will see it first.
In addition to the food and refreshments, attendees can expect to learn more about RAGBRAI, volunteer opportunities, purchase official Jefferson RAGBRAI merchandise, and enjoy a good time with friends and neighbors.
While the committee is planning surprises for the community, it got a surprise of its own at a Tuesday morning meeting. Several members of Grow Greene County Gaming Corporation showed up at the meeting to present a check for $20,000 to sponsor Hairball’s appearance on July 23. The executive committee, and particularly treasurer Nikki Uebel, were very happy to accept the check.
“We would love to see many folks of all ages show up to celebrate Jefferson’s official RAGBRAI kickoff celebration,” said Toni Wetrich’s counterpart Matt Wetrich. “RAGBRAI is not just a big bike ride, it is a celebration of each town that it stops in, and we are extremely proud to get to celebrate Jefferson.” Wetrich also encourages people to “be there in person to be the first to see our snazzy logo and fun theme.”
