The Greene County boys track and field team placed eighth of 16 teams at the Saydel Eagles Boys Invitational April 12, but coach Chad Morton described it as a “very good meet for the Rams.” His satisfaction came from personal records in 14 events, tying the school record in the high jump, and setting a new school record in the 110m hurdles.
The Rams had no first place finishes. Sophomore Carter Morton set a new school record in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.90. The time placed him sixth at the finish line. The winning time was 15.10 by Trevor Foley of Des Moines East.
Junior Carter Morton placed second in the high jump, clearing the bar at 6’ 2” and tying the school record. Junior Noah Bowen placed second in the 1600m run with a time of 4:47.40.
The 4 X 200m relay team of Morton, Brent Riley, Tyler Teeples and Colby Kafer placed third in 1:36.00.
Other athletes contributing to the team score were senior Kolin Reed at fourth place in the high jump at 6’; sophomore Kafer in fifth place in the 200m dash in 23.10, and in sixth place in the long jump at 18 8.25”; the 4 X 100m relay team of Morton, Lance Hughes, Teeples and Kafer in sixth place in 45.20; the distance medley relay team of Teeples, Riley, Xavier Hayes and Bowen in seventh place with a time of 3:59.0; and the sprint medley relay team of Clint Dennhardt, Hayes, Riley and Hughes in eight place with a time of 1:46.20
Personal records were set by Bryce Hoyle and Joseph Anderson* in the discus, Caden Wilson in the shot put, Anthony Tolsdorf and Josh Ewalt in the 3200m run, Dennhardt and Lucas Ausberger* in the 100m dash, Colton Aubrey* in the 800m run, Kafer and Nick Breon in the 200m dash, and the 4 X 100m relay.
Team scores were Gilbert 113, Des Moines East 85.5, Madrid 73, Nevada 64, North Polk 62, Roland-Story 48.5, Pleasantville 47.5, Greene County 43, Newton 39, Bondurant-Farrar 34.5, Oskaloosa 30, Panorama 28, Saydel 26, Ballard 22, Colfax-Mingo 16, Iowa Christian Academy 9.
