Don Orris, retired Jefferson businessman, was honored as a Guardian of Integrity at the Rotary International District 6000 “Toast to Rotary” Saturday at the Santa Maria Winery in Carroll.
The Paul Hellwege Guardian of Integrity Award was instituted eight years ago to recognize longtime Boone Rotarian Paul Hellwege, Each Rotary Club in the district can nominate one member who has made contributions in business, media, academia or government and who has by his or her actions, writing, policies and public pronouncements strengthened and fostered development of integrity and ethical practices.
Orris has served as president of the Jefferson Chamber of Commerce, headed the campaign to develop and fund the Jefferson Olympic Plaza honoring gold medalist Doreen Wilber, was chair of the Bell Tower Festival parade for decades, and is a founding member of the board of the Thomas Jefferson Gardens of Greene County.
He was honored by the Jefferson Rotary Club in 2006 as its “Professional of the Year.” In 2014 he received the Above and Beyond the Call (ABC) Award for outstanding volunteerism from the Greene County Chamber.
Two other Rotarians were named as Guardians of Integrity at the Carroll event – Dave Cook of Boone and Brad Vollstedtd of Manning.
