In Greene County district court Michael Lynn Heard Sr, 56, of Jefferson was sentenced April 5 to two years in jail at a contested sentencing hearing on charges of assault on a peace officer causing bodily injury. The jail time was suspended. He was fined $625 with a $218.75 surcharge. Heard was sentenced to one year in jail on a charge of criminal mischief- fourth degree. The jail time was suspended and he was placed on probation for two years.
He was fined $315 with a $110.25 surcharge and a $125 Law Enforcement Initiative surcharge. The $315 fine was suspended; the surcharges were not. Paying restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees was waived. The sentences are consecutive to charges in another Greene County case in which Heard was charged with 11 counts of forgery. Persons pleaded not guilty at arraignments as follows: Edward Eugene Goff Sr, 39, of Jefferson, theft- second degree; and Bradlee Gene Beadle, 47, of Jefferson, domestic abuse assault causing injury or mental illness. Trial dates were set for May 8.
Cases were initiated in district court as follows: Nicholas Carter Rice, 20, of Rippey, operating while intoxicated- first offense; Nathaniel Brown,51, of Scranton, OWI- first offense; Travis Michael Straight, 24, of Scranton, manufacture, deliver or possession with intent to deliver marijuana, and failure to affix tax stamp; and Jordan Marie Teeples, 18, of Jefferson, possession of marijuana- first offense.
Cases were waived from juvenile court to district court as follows: Nicholas Weber, 17, of Jefferson, burglary- third degree, burglary- third degree motor vehicle (eight counts), and theft- fourth degree; and Douglas James Bumgardner, 17, of Jefferson, possession of marijuana- first offense.
