Genesis Development began in 1973 as the Greene County Sheltered Workshop with a rented building at the fairgrounds in Jefferson. Forty five years later and Genesis has 13 locations serving 16 counties across central Iowa. This past year has seen Genesis serve over 4,200 individuals with disabilities in a variety of services.

The Jefferson city council approved a compromise on the working on wayfinding signage that will be installed in the early summer. Signs intended to direct visitors will point toward the “downtown square,” not the “bell tower square” as was first suggested by the city, nor “courthouse square” as was proposed by the county supervisors.

The contracts will be let next month for a road project on County Road E-18 (130th St) from County Road P-29 (N Ave) east 2.2 miles toward Paton. The county supervisors approved the construction plans at their March 26 meeting. The hot mix asphalt overlay will cost $400,000 per mile.
