This year’s Super Hero-themed Relay for Life of Greene County asks “Who’s Your Hero?” The 5K run/walk, now in its fourth year, is adding a new mini-race, a 6-block run for heroes in training.
Persons of any age are welcome to be part of the Heroes in Training run. Children 12 and younger will receive a cape to boost their super powers as they run around from the Greene County Community Center, around the courthouse square, and back.
Participants in the 5K run/walk are invited to wear their best hero costume for a chance to win prizes and to avoid paying a (voluntary) villain fee. The committee invites people to “be creative, be dynamic!”
Costume prizes will be awarded for the best individual costume, the best duo (two things that go together), and the best team (three or more). “The 2018 route will be the same as in 2017, but the participants will be super,” a committee spokesperson said.
The Relay for Life of Greene County is slated for Saturday, April 21, at the Greene County Community Center in Jefferson.
Registrations for the Heroes in Training run and the 5K run/walk are being accepted now at the Community Center. The registration fee on or before April 13 is $20 for ages 13 and older, and $10 for ages 12 and younger. On April 14 or after the fee is $25 for ages 13 and older and $10 for ages 12 and younger. Adult participants will receive a T-shirt.
Completed registration forms can be dropped off or mailed to the Greene County Community Center at 204 W. Harrison St, Jefferson, IA 50129. Checks should be payable to the American Cancer Society.
On Relay Day, check-in and registration for the Heroes in Training run and the 5K will begin at 9:30 am. The Heroes in Training run will start at 10:30 am, following the traditional Survivors’ Walk at 10:20. The 5K run/walk will begin at 10:45.
