Dear Greene County Citizens,
Education has been important to me as a 2003 graduate of Jefferson-Scranton School District, and current volunteer on the “Our Kids, Our Future – Greene County” board. I attended AIB College of Business graduating with an associate’s degree in business and finance, which has led to a career in insurance. My husband Jeff and I have two boys, ages 5 and 10, in our schools.
My initial plan in life was to get away; move to a big city with better paying jobs and amenities galore. My dad and brother, (both graduates of Greene County school districts) through their careers in finance, marketing and procurement, travel all over the US and the world. I wanted to be just like them.
But for me, Greene County is home. I love that my kids sometimes have teachers that I had, or with whom I went to school.
With that said, I’d like to address the current bond referendum being proposed. My husband and I will pay more in taxes, just like any other property owner within our district.
But what about the opportunities this new referendum offers? A more skilled, younger workforce, free college/training courses geared specifically for our needs, handicap accessibility to all school buildings, and better security to protect our children while they’re in school.
Yes, $21.4 million is a lot of money. But if we don’t invest in our community for our children, grandchildren, and beyond, we will never move forward. If our community turns this down, we will not get this chance again; which is why I will be voting YES on April 3rd.
