Services were held Sunday, March 4, at Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home for Karen Jane Schilling, 65, of Lee’s Summit, MO.
Words of comfort were offered by Tim Robbins of Scranton. Casket bearers were Merle Hallinan, Jim Hallinan, Tom Hallinan, Denny Hallinan, McKinley Schilling and Jeremy McGowen. Interment was at the Scranton Township Cemetery.
Karen Schilling was born February 14, 1953, in Carroll, the daughter of Donald and Harriett Hallinan.
She graduated from Kuemper High School in Carroll in 1971. After graduation she moved to Denver, CO, where she attended Barnes Business School. After business school she landed a position as secretary for the Internal Revenue Service. She maintained her government position for many years, working in a variety of locations including Fairbanks, AK, and Kansas City, MO.
After retirement Karen pursued her passion for gardening and helping others. In particular, she enjoyed establishing gardens at Unity Village.
Karen died Feb. 27, 2018, in Lee’s Summit.
Karen is survived by her husband Richard Schilling; mother Harriett Hallinan; brothers Merle Hallinan, Jim Hallinan, Denny Hallinan, and Tom Hallinan; and sisters Jeannie Parker and Mary Hodapp. She is also survived by her children Matthew Parsons, Joseph Parsons, Angela McGowen, James Schilling and Sean Schilling, and 13 grandchildren.
Karen will be best remembered for her generosity and her willingness to sacrifice her time to help other people.
