Team registration for the Relay for Life of Greene County is in full swing. Like last year, all registrations must be completed online at https://secure.acsevents.org
Captains of 2017 teams have received information from Autumn Larson, chair of the Teams committee.
An introduction to the new Spirit Award was included. The Spirit Award will go to the team who works the hardest, which may not be the team that raises the most. Teams will get points for timely registration, holding fundraisers, attending the actual Relay, and more. As an extra incentive, new teams are being given bonus points as a welcome. The winner of the Spirit Award will receive a traveling trophy.
Also, Peg Raney, captain of the Holy Walkamolies team at St Joseph Catholic Church, has challenged other churches to put together a team and top the Holy Walkamolies’ fundraising totally.
The Event Leadership Team (ELT) has chosen a Super Heroes theme this year, and area residents are being asked “Who’s Your Hero?”
“We see heroes every day. We see cancer survivors and caregivers, and they’re heroes. Cancer researchers are heroes, too, and some of them are right here in Iowa,” said Tori Riley, chair of the ELT. “We’re having a lot of fun planning ways to incorporate the Super Heroes theme into the Relay. People at the Relay are likely to see a cape or two.”
The Relay for Life of Greene County will be held Saturday, April 21, at the Greene County Community Center.
