A free Business After Hours event entitled “Social Media 101 for Businesses” is being hosted by the economic vitality committee of Jefferson Matters: Main Street on Monday, Feb. 26.
Robin Bostrom, Main Street Iowa business specialist, will be the presenter for this overview of social media uses for business at the Jefferson Elks lodge. The presentation will be from 5:45 to 6:30 pm, preceded by a social time at 5:15 sponsored by Greater Life Chiropractic with Dr. Phil Heisterkamp.
Bostrom said, “Social media is certainly not the silver bullet but it has become a very important part of the marketing tool kit. Every community is different and in many cases a local newspaper or radio is still very important to the mix. Social media is also very cost effective, especially for those businesses that do not have a large budget to spend on marketing. The main thing is to know where your target customer gets their information and then put together a campaign to reach them in the most cost effective way.”
Bostrom plans to share how to create content and a calendar for effective social media marketing. Areas include Facebook, Instagram, YouTube videos, Pinterest, Twitter, MailChimp & Yelp. Hand-outs will be available at this presentation and on the Main Street website under Resources.
Jefferson’s market analysis completed through the organization in 2015 indicated that businesses were interested in topics on social media and marketing for small businesses. The economic vitality committee of Jefferson Matters: Main Street chose marketing as the focus for their Business After Hours events this year. Another presentation on Marketing for Small Businesses is planned for early fall.
All interested in this topic are invited to attend. Reservations are not needed.
