Planning for the Register’s Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) overnight in Jefferson July 23 is well under way, with Toni and Matt Wetrich serving as co-chairs. Efforts will be made to have people from across the county on the various planning committees.
Jefferson mayor Craig Berry asked the county supervisors at their Feb. 1 meeting for permission to use the courthouse square July 20-24 for the RAGBRAI visit. He also alerted the supervisors that the local RAGBRAI committee will probably ask the supervisors for start-up funds, possibly from the county’s Dreyfus fund.
Other towns on the route will not be announced by the Des Moines Register until March, but county engineer Wade Weiss has been alerted by the RAGBRAI organization that Scranton, Grand Junction and Dana are on the proposed route.
