Greene County’s property and liability insurance costs will increase 3 percent for the year beginning July 1. Joan St Clair of MacDonald Insurance met with the county supervisors Feb. 1 about the insurance renewals.
The county’s property and liability insurance is through the Iowa Community Assurances Pool (ICAP). Rates are not changing; the increase is due to revisions to actual property values. The “contribution” to ICAP will total $156,100.
The contribution for workers compensation coverage through Iowa Municipalities Workers’ Compensation Association (IMWCA) will remain nearly the same at $45,069. That cost is based partly on how many claims have been filed. St Clair told the supervisors the rate will be higher in FY20 due to claims filed in FY18,
The very modest increase in property/liability insurance is offset by a 23 percent increase in the cost of the health insurance benefit provided to employees and elected officials.
