A week of free movies at the Sierra Community Theatre starts Wednesday, Feb. 7, and continues through Thursday, Feb. 15. Classics Week kicks off with the 1957 winner of seven Academy Awards,  “Bridge on the River Kwai”. Show times are 2 and 7 pm Wednesday and 7 pm Thursday, Feb. 8.

All are invited to a winter pops concert presented by the Greene County High School music department Thursday, Feb. 8, at 7:30 pm in the high school auditorium. The concert band, treble choir and concert choir will perform selections centered on a 1980s theme. The jazz choir will also perform its contest music. Admission is free.

A group of five Paton-Churdan students traveled to Johnston Monday, Jan. 29, to learn more about high-demand, high-paying careers fro women in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). The students viewed interactive STEM booths and took guided notes about the training and education needed for specific careers. The event was sponsored by Iowa Public Television and Million Women Mentors Iowa.

Greene County High School teacher Teresa Green is the recipient of the January Extraordinary Citizen award presented by Home State Bank. Green was nominated by Abby McConnell.
