RAGBRAI, the Register Annual Bike Ride Across Iowa, will overnight in Jefferson Monday, July 23, organizers announced Saturday in Des Moines.
The last time RAGBRAI riders overnighted in Jefferson was July 21, 2008. Other Jefferson overnights were in 1976, 1986 and 1989.
The ride will bring an expected 10,000 riders to Jefferson.
RAGBRAI will begin in Onawa and overnight in Denison Sunday night. Riders will have ridden 71.7 miles from Denison and climbed 2,527 feet as they arrive in Jefferson Monday.
Their destination upon departing from Jefferson will be Ames. From Ames they’ll head to Newton, then Sigourney, Iowa City, and finally Davenport.
Jefferson is the third smallest town to serve as an overnight host. Onawa and Sigourney both have populations about half that of Jefferson.
Pass through towns will be announced in March.
