Janice Harbaugh of Jefferson has been elected to a four-year term on the board of directors for Prairie Lakes Area Education Agency (AEA). Harbaugh was sworn in on Jan. 3 to represent Director District #5 which includes the following school districts: East Sac County, Greene County, Manson Northwest Webster, Paton-Churdan, Prairie Valley, and South Central Calhoun.
“This is an opportunity to become involved with education again and talk with others who are interested in education,” Harbaugh said.
Harbaugh is a former special education teacher and earned a doctorate in counseling. She also served as a counselor in private practice under contract with the Iowa Department of Human Services, working with foster children who had been physically, emotionally, and sexually abused. Through her publishing company, Raspberry Ridge Publishing, Harbaugh writes and publishes reprints of public domain books and maps that relate to the early automotive history in Iowa. These books would be lost without this preservation.
She replaces Rick Morain of Jefferson, who served on the board for four years. AEA board members are elected by the school districts represented in an area referred to as a director district. The Prairie Lakes AEA board is comprised of seven members.
Prairie Lakes Area Education Agency provides special education, school improvement, media and technology support services to 32,000 students and 3,500 educators in 40 public school districts and 11 accredited, nonpublic schools in a 14-county area.
