At its Nov. 14 meeting, the council discussed an urban chicken ordinance which would have allowed residents who live south of the railroad tracks in Scranton to raise poultry.

N. Raccoon Watershed hires coordinator

A watershed management plan that has a lot of input from local farmers is the goal of Marius Agua, newly hired coordinator of the North Raccoon Watershed Coalition. Mark Hanson, a four-term Dallas County supervisor and chair of the coalition, and Bret Wilkinson, Buena Vista County engineer, introduced Agua to the county supervisors Monday.

Harvest ’17 nearly finished

Last crop report for the year Many Iowa farmers were able to wrap up their fall fieldwork with 6.6 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending Nov. 26, according to the USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service. Activities for the week included harvesting, baling corn stalks, tiling, terracing, hauling and spreading manure, and applying fertilizers.

Greene County district court, week ending Nov. 23

In Greene County district court David Michael Cannon, 39, of Grand Junction was sentenced Nov. 17 to two years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of driving while license barred.
