The original poetry of five Greene County poets has been selected for the 2017 edition of Lyrical Iowa, the annual anthology published by the Iowa Poetry Association. The anthology includes poems by Iowa writers of all ages.
Lyrical Iowa will include poems by Lorene Conner, Victoria Riley, Hollie Roberts and Jerry Roberts, all of Jefferson, and Nancy Hanaman of Rippey.
The 341 poems selected were among 2,026 entries in a contest held earlier this year. Entries came from more than 100 cities and towns in 68 Iowa counties.
The Iowa Poetry Association is a not-for-profit organization with a stated purpose “to promote interest in and appreciation of poetry among Iowans,” and to encourage and improve the art of self-expression through verse of varied genres.
Rules for the 2018 contest are available at www.iowapoetry.com. Entries must be submitted by Feb. 28, 2018.
