Area residents are invited to bring blankets and lawn chairs and enjoy free Charlie Brown movies and free popcorn on the Bell Tower plaza Tuesday, Sept. 26, at 7 pm.
To culminate the 100th anniversary of Beta Tau Delta, the organization will show two short movies for kids and the young at heart. “You’re in the Super Bowl, Charlie Brown” and “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” will be projected directly onto the biggest “big screen” in Jefferson – the Mahanay Memorial Carillon Tower – with free popcorn provided by Wahl-McAtee Tire Service.
This year Beta Tau Delta celebrated 100 years of providing support for Greene County children’s programs, projects and critical needs. The group celebrated that milestone by sponsoring several events that were for the benefit of the children in the county, including paying the admissions for all children to go to the top of the Bell Tower during 2017, free movie passes to the Sierra Theater, free ice cream cones at Twiins Shop, and free pool passes to the Jefferson and Grand Junction pools.
On Thursday, Sept. 28, Beta Tau Delta will again pay all the expenses to take all second graders in the Greene County and Paton-Churdan schools to the Blank Park Zoo. Beta members will also chaperone the trip.
“We celebrated our 100th anniversary with several fun events for kids; however, most of our support goes to serious and often critical needs for youth programs, projects, and individual children,” said Beta president Sandra Drewry. “None of that support would be possible without the assistance of the citizens of Greene County who have responded to our fundraising efforts over the years. Those donations have made it possible for the needs of countless children, youth organizations, and youth programs to be met for many, many years.”
