After a summer of disappointing news, Greene County Catholics heard better news this past weekend.
A plan to merge the four parishes that will remain open following implementation of the Ministry 2025 plan has been changed. According to Father Jeff Schleisman, pastor of the Greene County cluster, the bishop agreed that it would be administratively impossible to merge four churches and a parochial school into one large parish, particularly considering the geographic distances involved.
The bishop’s final plan calls for merging St Joseph in Jefferson and St John in Ogden into one parish, and merging Sacred Heart (which has a school) in Boone and St Malachi in Madrid into another parish.
There will be two weekend masses at St Joseph – Saturday evening and Sunday morning – and a Sunday morning mass at St John.
St Columbkille in Churdan and St Brigid in Grand Junction will go into oratory status when the plan is implemented next July.
