The first of three public meetings about developing a trail that connects several parks and schools in Jefferson is slated for Thursday, Sept. 7, from 5 to 6:30 pm at the Greene County Community Center.
The Jefferson park and recreation department received a National Park grant last year to fund an Iowa State University student and the National Park Service in developing safe trails for adults and children. Zoey Mauck, a third-year student at ISU studying landscape architecture and community/regional planning, is developing the plan.
At the Sept. 7 meeting, Mauck will have a slide presentation on her observations of Jefferson as a visitor and as a cyclist. She will present a sidewalk analysis map, Simplest connections, Utilizing Quieter Streets, and talk about pushing boundaries for trails in Jefferson.
Mauck wants and needs public feedback on her ideas and what community residents would like to see.
All those interested in the project are asked to attend.
