Firemen from Jefferson, Churdan and Paton left Greene County Tuesday afternoon to assist with flood rescues in Houston.
Jefferson fire chief and Greene County sheriff Jack Williams, Jefferson firefighters Mike Wahl and Terry Becker, Churdan firefighters Garrett Riedesel and Nate Byerly, and Paton firefighters James Doran and Joe Doran responded to a request for help from the president of the Houston Firefighters Association.
They’re using a Churdan fire department truck and personal vehicles, and taking with them three rescue boats, motors, life jackets, helmets, generators, and food and water. Wal-Mart is donating life jackets and Star Energy is donating fuel, according to Williams.
The volunteers will help in the search and rescue efforts of Houston residents caught in the catastrophic flooding caused by prolonged rainfall following Hurricane Harvey.
Williams said they’ll drive straight through to Houston. They expect to return Friday when rescue operations are expected to be finished.
Persons who would like to help cover the cost of the trip can make donations to any of the three fire departments.
