Hoskins Stock Farm of Jefferson earned top honors in the Dorset sheep show judged Wednesday, Aug. 16, at the Iowa State Fair. Hoskins claimed the champion and reserve champion ewe banner and champion ram banner. Hoskins Stock Farm also won second place in the premier exhibitor contest.
Hoskins placed first and third in the January ram lamb class, first in the pair of ram lambs class, first and third in yearling ewes, first in shorn yearling ewe, first in pair of yearling ewes, first in January ewe lamb, second in February ewe lamb, first in March and after ewe lamb, third in shorn ewe lamb- all ages, first in pair of ewe lambs, first in pair of lambs, first in young flock and first in flock.
At the Suffolk sheep show, judged Aug. 19, Hoskins Stock Farm placed first in the March and after ewe lamb class. Hoskins placed second in nine classes: March and after ram lamb; pair of ram lambs; yearling ewe (two different animals), pair of yearling ewes, pair of ewe lambs, pair of lambs, young flock, and flock.
In the wether sire/dam sheep show judged Aug. 19, Wolf Club Lambs of Scranton placed first in the black face yearling ewe class, first, second, sixth, seventh in black face ewe lamb classes, second in the black face ram lamb class, and first in the white face/specked face ram lamb class.
Shahan Club Lambs of Jefferson placed tenth in a black face ewe lamb class.
Also, Bill Frederick of Jefferson placed 10th in the ranch cattle class of the stock dog trails held Aug. 16. During the competition, handlers worked their dogs to maneuver a small herd of animals through a series of hurdles and gates. The winners were determined by the time it took to negotiate the course.
