Register now for youth soccer, flag football, and more

Registration deadlines are approaching for several Jefferson park and recreation fall programs, including soccer.

Youngsters who plan to play in the U8, U10 or U12 soccer leagues must register by Aug. 25.
The U8 (born in 2010-11) games will begin Sept. 16 and will be played in Jefferson and Ogden. U10 (born 2008-09) and U12 (born 2006-07) games will be played in Fort Dodge starting Sept. 9. Practices will be held in Jefferson on a schedule that will be determined by the coaches.

Registration for U6 soccer is due by Sept. 5. Games and practices will be held Mondays from 5:30 to 6:30 pm at Kelso Park in Jefferson. The program is open to children who are younger than 6 as of July 31, 2017.

Volunteer coaches are needed at all levels. Call JPRD assistant director Sean Ostendorf at 515-386-3412 for more information.

Registration for flag football for boys and girls in grades 1-3 is due by Aug. 28. The emphasis of the program is on fundamentals, coordination, learning the rules of the game, and learning to play with teammates. The program will meet Tuesdays, Sept. 5 through Sept. 26, from 5:30 to 6:30 pm at Kelso Park.

Returning to the program line-up is mini color guard.

The program will meet Monday, Sept. 11, from 3:30 to 4:30 pm, and Wednesday, July 13, from 2:30 to 3:30 pm at the Greene County Community Center. Boys and girls preK through fifth grade will learn a flag routine and perform it with the Greene County High School marching band and color guard at the home football game Friday, Sept. 15.

Fall mini cheerleading will meet Tuesday, Sept. 12, and Thursday, Sept. 14, from 3:30 to 5 pm at Greene County Elementary School. Ann Ostendorf and the Ram cheer squad will teach cheers and jumps to boys and girls in preK through fifth grade. They will also perform at the Sept. 15 football game.

The performances of the mini color guard and mini cheerleaders will not be simultaneous. Children can do both programs.

Registration forms are available at the community center at 204 W. Harrison St or on the city website. Persons who want more information can call the community center at 515-386-3412.
